In a notable political development, Archana Patil Chakurkar, daughter-in-law of former Lok Sabha speaker and Congress leader Shivraj Patil, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (30 March).
Archana Patil is currently serving as the chairperson of Lifecare Hospital and Research Centre in Udgir.
Her husband, Shailesh Patil Chandurkar, holds the position of state secretary in the Congress party.
Expressing her motivation behind the move, Archana Patil highlighted her admiration for Prime Minister Modi's initiatives, particularly the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which emphasizes equal opportunities for women.
"I have joined BJP to work in the political sphere," she said.
Archana Patil also emphasised her commitment to grassroots-level work, both in her previous engagement in Latur and now with the BJP.
She clarified that she was never officially associated with the Congress and was drawn to the BJP's ideology.
Shivraj Patil, her father-in-law had served as the Union Home Minister from 2004 to 2008 in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
