Maharashtra Cabinet Clears Integrated Redevelopment Of 4,973 Flats Under In Andheri West

The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on 23 September approved the large scale redevelopment of nearly 4,973 flats spread across 498 plots in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SPV) Nagar, Andheri (West).
The project will be executed through the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
SPV Nagar was originally allotted in 1993 under a World Bank supported scheme and today comprises 98 cooperative housing societies, 24 high-income group apartment plots, 62 individual plots of 60 sq.m., and 245 plots of 100 sq.m.
Over the years, the colony has seen growing demand for upgraded living spaces and infrastructure.
According to officials, MHADA has proposed to undertake the redevelopment under the Brihanmumbai Development Control Rules.
The project will adopt a collective redevelopment model, enabling residents to receive more spacious homes and modern civic amenities.
The integrated township plan is expected to incorporate schools, healthcare centres, commercial zones, playgrounds, gyms, swimming pools, auditoriums, and institutional offices.
Green building practices are planned as part of the redevelopment, with an emphasis on solar energy, rainwater harvesting and waste management systems.
Officials added that more open spaces and landscaped green areas will be integrated to enhance the liveability of the township.
The state government noted that the redevelopment will be implemented on the lines of successful MHADA projects at Bandra Reclamation and Adarsh Nagar, Worli.
To ensure speedy execution, a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Housing Secretary will be formed to monitor and coordinate the project.
