Maharashtra Cabinet Clears Rs 5,704 Crore Pune Metro Phase-2 Extensions To Loni Kalbhor And Saswad

The Maharashtra Cabinet Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday (4 November) approved the implementation of two new metro corridors under the Pune Metro Phase-2 project, connecting Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar Bus Depot to Saswad Road as part of the broader Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi Metro Line.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who also serves as the Guardian Minister of Pune district, confirmed the approval and noted that he had been closely pursuing the proposal.
The two extensions together will span 16 km, featuring 14 elevated stations, and will be implemented by Maha Metro at an estimated cost of Rs 5,704 crore.
Pawar stated that the fully elevated metro lines will help ease the city’s growing traffic congestion and extend the metro network towards eastern Pune and adjoining rural areas.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also instructed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and its concessionaire to speed up construction on the remaining 13 stations along the 23 km Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3, emphasising that the project must be completed by the March 2026 deadline.
Of the 23 proposed stations, work has been finished on only 10 so far.
