Maharashtra Clears Rs 23,487 crore Mumbai Metro Line-11 From Wadala To Gateway Of India

The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the long-awaited Mumbai Metro Line-11 project, linking Anik Depot and Wadala with the Gateway of India, alongside a budgetary provision of Rs 23,487.51 crore, according to an official statement.

Metro Line-11 is conceived as an extension of Metro Line-4 (Wadala–Thane–Kasarvadavli) and aims to significantly strengthen the city’s east–west connectivity. The 17.51 km corridor will be largely underground, with 13 subterranean stations and one at ground level.

The line’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), while the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) will be responsible for execution.

Officials confirmed that nearly 70 per cent of the route will run underground, a design choice driven by the density of South Mumbai and the need to minimise land acquisition. The project has already secured clearance from the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Infrastructure.

Once completed, Metro Line-11 is expected to ease congestion on some of Mumbai’s most crowded arterial roads while providing a public transport option between Wadala and the city’s southern tip.
