Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed officials to examine ways to seamlessly connect the upcoming Mhatredi railway station in Thane district with Thane railway station, Kopar railway station, and Taloja metro station, forming a critical node on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route.
The directive came during a meeting at the MSRDC office, attended by Deputy Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Naveen Sona, as well as representatives from Maharail and the High-Speed Rail Authority.
Mhatredi station, being constructed near Diwa in Thane district, is set to become a major integrated transport hub on India’s first high-speed rail corridor.
Once operational, it will link the bullet train with suburban railways, metro lines, buses, and highways, ensuring smooth passenger movement across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Maharail presented a detailed conceptual design illustrating connectivity options from Thane, Kopar, and Taloja, which Shinde instructed the High-Speed Rail Authority to explore further. The Authority has endorsed the proposal and agreed to forward it to the Ministry of Railways.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor spans approximately 508 kilometres, passing through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, with 12 stations planned along the route.
In Maharashtra, the corridor will cover Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex), Thane, Virar, and Boisar. In Gujarat, the train will stop at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
Trial runs are scheduled to begin next year, with full operations expected by 2029.
