Maharashtra To Modernise Industrial Training Institutes For Skill Development In Port And Logistics Sector

The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Atal Solutions and the Departments of Skill Development and Ports.

The agreement seeks to modernise selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to equip students with world-class skills for the ports and logistics sector.

The initiative is backed by Foreign Credit Agencies (ECAs) from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland, who have pledged an investment of Rs 120 crore.

In the initial phase, six ITIs located in Mumbai, Pune, Baramati, Sindhudurg, Nagpur and Nashik will be upgraded with advanced training infrastructure, simulation labs, and international certification courses.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that 5,000 to 7,000 students will be trained annually in maritime and port management skills, creating large-scale employment opportunities.

The state’s focus on a public-private partnership model has helped secure Maharashtra’s leadership in skill training, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 and the state’s ITI Modernisation Policy 2025.

ITI will now produce skilled manpower in the field of maritime transport and port management, said Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, adding that this model will set a national benchmark.

Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane emphasises the importance of the MoU, highlighting the growing demand for trained personnel at JNPT, Vadhavan and other port authorities.

With 95 per cent economic risk covered under the ECA framework, this initiative marks India’s first export-ready vocational education model, expected to be replicated across other states.
