Major Diplomatic Backing For India: Quad Slams Pahalgam Terror Attack, Urges Global Cooperation To Punish Terrorists

The Quad foreign ministers On Wednesday (2 July) condemned the 22 April terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Express reported.

In a joint statement issued after their meeting in Washington, the ministers, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, said, “We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir... We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery to all those injured.”

They further called for the perpetrators, organisers, and financiers of the Pahalgam attack to be brought to justice without wait.

The ministers urged all UN member states to actively cooperate with the relevant authorities, in line with their obligations under international law and applicable UN Security Council resolutions.

The inclusion of the Pahalgam attack in the Quad’s joint statement is being viewed as a significant diplomatic win for India.


In line with this, the joint statement reiterated the Quad’s position, stating that it unequivocally condemns all forms of terrorism and violent extremism, including cross-border terrorism.

This was the second Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in 2025 and the first since Operation Sindoor.

The ministers also held discussions on regional security, the resilience of critical mineral supply chains, and enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
