L to R: Atishi, Manish Sisodia, Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh, Gopal Rai
Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has promised to reappoint Manish Sisodia as the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, if the party retains power in the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for 5 February.
At an election rally in the Jangpura constituency, where Manish Sisodia is the AAP candidate, Kejriwal said on Sunday (26 January), "If Sisodia is elected, he will once again become the Deputy CM in the new government."
The former Delhi CM urged the voters to ensure that the MLA from Jangpura is from the AAP so that the constituency can get its due share with Sisodia as the Deputy CM when AAP forms the government again.
Sisodia was Deputy CM of Delhi until 2022 but resigned from the post after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Delhi liquor excise policy case.
"If your constituency’s MLA is the Deputy CM, all officials will address your concerns over the phone. No officer will dare to ignore a call from a resident of the Deputy CM’s constituency," Kejriwal said luring voters.
"In this way, Manish Sisodia won’t be the only Deputy CM; every one of you here will feel like a Deputy CM," Kejriwal said alleging that in the constituencies from where BJP MLAs were elected in 2020, no work had been done.
“Last time, BJP won eight assembly constituencies. They did not let any work happen in their areas. All eight of them made their assembly a living hell. You people should not make such a mistake even by mistake,” he alleged.
Sisodia is competing against Tarwinder Singh Marwah from BJP and Farhad Suri from Congress. The AAP has fielded former UPSC coach Avadh Ojha on the Patparganj seat, which Sisodia left, against BJP's Ravinder Singh Negi.
