Maruti Suzuki Expands Solar Capacity To 79MWp, Aiming For 85 Per Cent Share of Renewable Energy In Total Electricity Consumption By FY31

Aligning with the government’s renewable energy goals, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has expanded its solar energy capacity by 30 megawatt peak (MWp) with new installations at its facilities in Kharkhoda and Manesar, Haryana, India Today reported.

The automaker commissioned a 20MWp solar project at its upcoming Kharkhoda plant and added another 10MWp at the Manesar site.

This raises MSIL’s total installed solar capacity from 49MWp to 79MWp in just one year.

Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki aims to scale up its solar power capacity to 319MWp by FY2030-31, supported by an investment of over Rs 925 crore.

The company is also targeting increasing the share of renewable energy in its electricity consumption to nearly 85 per cent during the same period.


He added that, through sustained efforts, the share of renewable sources of energy in total electricity consumption is expected to reach nearly 85 Per cent by FY2030-31.

The initiative aligns with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and supports the Indian government’s renewable energy goals. It also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #7 on affordable and clean energy.

In addition to the solar push, MSIL is increasing green power procurement from state electricity boards.

Before the Kharkhoda facility, Maruti Suzuki operated three plants in India, located in Gurgaon, Manesar, and Gujarat, with a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million units.

With the commencement of operations at the Kharkhoda plant, Maruti Suzuki’s annual production capacity in India will increase to 2.6 million units.
