News Brief
White House
A massive crowd of pro-Hamas protesters have gathered outside the White House to protest against Joe Biden led administration's support of Israel, according to a report from Hindustan Times.
About eight months after Israel’s war in Gaza began, approximately 30,000 pro-Palestinian demonstrators arrived at the Executive Mansion around noon on 8 June.
The members of the Answer Coalition, one of the activist groups involved in the protest have unveiled a “two-mile long” red banner. According to them, this banner symbolises the "red line" they believe Biden crossed when Israel invaded Rafah.
The Answer Coalition's website states, “Biden can’t draw the line, but we can. On 8 June, we will come together from across the country and surround the White House. Wearing red, and raising our demands high, we will show the world that we are the red line.”
A video on X showed some protesters igniting and throwing smoke bomb flares onto the White House lawn.
Additionally, the Andrew Jackson statue outside the White House was defaced with phrases like “Free Gaza” and “Boycott Israel Products”.
In the days following the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel last year, additional fencing was erected around the White House in anticipation of such protests.
