Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam arrived in Uttarakhand on Friday (12 September) for a four-day official visit, reported The New Indian Express.

The Mauritius Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife Veena Ramgoolam, landed at Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport around 3 pm aboard a special aircraft.

Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi, Principal Secretary R K Sudhanshu, DGP Deepam Seth, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, and SSP Ajay Kumar greeted him at the airport.

As his convoy moved towards Narendra Nagar, school students and NCC cadets lined the route, waving flags and cheering.

At Indramani Badoni Chowk, NCC and school bands performed.

On arrival at their hotel, local women in traditional attire extended a cultural reception with folk songs and tilak.

Impressed by the state’s landscapes, Ramgoolam remarked, “The serene beauty of Uttarakhand is truly captivating.”

The Prime Minister and his wife admired the picturesque views of Rishikesh from their hotel. Their itinerary until 15 September includes visits to Rishikesh and Haridwar.

Authorities enforced elaborate security arrangements.

Officials declared a ‘zero zone’ from Jolly Grant Airport to Dhalwala for about 30 minutes, halting traffic at key junctions, including Indramani Badoni Chowk.

In Tehri district, the Dhalwala–Narendranagar stretch also became a zero zone.

Police briefly stopped vehicles from the Chamba side at Bhadrakali and the bypass until the VIP convoy passed, restoring traffic only afterward.
