Meat Shops To Be Closed During Kanwar Yatra: Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra announced that meat shops across the capital will remain closed during the Kanwar Yatra, which is scheduled from 11 July to 23 this year, reported India Today.

While he confirmed the shutdown, Mishra did not clarify if the ban would only apply to shops located along the Kanwar Yatra route.

Addressing reporters, Mishra asserted, "Meat shops will remain closed in Delhi during the Kanwar Yatra. This is our decision. Most of these meat shops are illegal anyway and should not be operating as per the law."

He added, "But during the Kanwar Yatra, they will be especially kept shut. Everyone must follow the law. These are all illegal shops, and we cannot allow them to operate during the Kanwar Yatra."

Earlier, Delhi BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah also urged for strict measures. He wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the temporary closure of liquor and meat shops along the Yatra routes. Marwah claimed the ban would help preserve the sanctity of the religious procession and reduce the chances of disturbances.

In his letter, Marwah stated, “We appeal that meat and liquor shops on the designated routes of the Kanwar Yatra are temporarily shut down so that its sanctity is maintained and there are no untoward incidents.”

The administration is yet to issue an official notification detailing the affected areas and enforcement methods.
