United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to the terrorist group Hamas, demanding the release of hostages captured during its October 2023 attack on Israel. Trump declared that if the hostages are not freed by 20 January 2025—the day he assumes office—there will be “ALL HELL TO PAY” in the Middle East.

His post on Truth Social underscored his commitment to addressing the situation, stating, “Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!”

Hamas captured approximately 250 hostages during its assault on Israel. While 105 hostages were released in November 2023 as part of a temporary ceasefire, around 100 remain in captivity, with Israeli authorities estimating that a third of the hostages are deceased.

The situation remains a significant point of tension, with President-elect Trump emphasizing that such atrocities against humanity will not go unanswered.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has actively worked to mediate between Israel and Hamas. Efforts have included brokering ceasefires and engaging with mediators like Qatar and Egypt to secure a truce that prioritizes the release of all remaining hostages.

The administration also facilitated a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, showcasing its broader diplomatic engagement in the region.

As January 2025 approaches, Trump's ultimatum adds pressure to ongoing negotiations. His firm stance signals potential US action against those responsible, raising the stakes in an already volatile geopolitical landscape.
