Minor Boy Returning From Bajrang Dal Camp Stabbed To Death By Member Of Muslim Community; Communal Tension In Assam's Karimganj

A 16-year-old Hindu boy identified as Sambhu Koiri was stabbed to death in Assam on 8 January (Sunday), allegedly by a member of the Muslim community, causing communal tension.

The incident took lace in Lowaripua area of Patharkandi subdivision in Karimganj district in Assam.

Police forces have been deployed in the area. Section 144 has been imposed in various parts.

Sambhu was a student of Class X and volunteered for Bajrang Dal, the youth arm of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The police have so far arrested a man named Animul Haque in connection to the murder.


Sambhu was reportedly returning from a three-day training camp organised by Bajrang Dal in Hailakandi district. 

A report by The Hindu quoted an unidentified senior police officer as saying, “The person was attacked with sharp weapons. Local people immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead”.

The officer said that massive protests were staged in the city following the attack. Several volunteers of Bajrang Dal gheraoed the police station demanding arrests of the culprits. Extra forces were deployed in the city citing the seriousness of the matter. 

report by Organizer quoted an eyewitness as saying that Sambhu was attacked from the back and stabbed multiple times on head, neck area and face.
