‘Minority Within Minorities’: Dawoodi Bohra Muslim Delegation Hail Waqf Amendment Act In Meeting With PM Modi

Members of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in Lok Kalyan Marg on Thursday (18 April) and extended their support to the Waqf Amendment Act.

The delegation — comprising business leaders, doctors, professionals, educators, and other prominent members — narrated how properties belonging to community members were wrongfully claimed by the Waqf.

They expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for addressing their concerns through the Amendment Act, saying it was not just a reform for minorities, but for the “minority within minorities”.

While saying that India has always allowed their identity to flourish, they added that under PM Modi's leadership, they feel the spirit of inclusion.

The delegation lauded the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 and offered their full support in building a developed India.

They praised several key initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat, support for MSMEs etc saying they have been very helpful especially for small businesses.

Addressing the delegation, Prime Minister Modi underlined the years of effort behind the Waqf Amendment Act and recalled the difficulties many women — especially widows — faced due to the earlier system.

PM Modi spoke warmly of his long-standing ties with the Dawoodi Bohra community and commended their sustained work in the field of social welfare.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin in shaping the Act.

He said when work towards bringing about the Waqf Amendment Act started, one of the first people he discussed this with was Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who was instrumental in giving detailed comments about various nitty-gritties of the Act, the PMO said in a release.
