Mizoram Set To Get Capital Rail Connectivity As Northeast Frontier Railway Conducts First Trial Run To Aizawl’s Sairang

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted the first-ever trial run to Sairang, near Aizawl, on Thursday (1 May), marking a major breakthrough for Mizoram’s integration into India’s national railway network.
With this development, Mizoram becomes the fourth northeastern state to gain capital city rail connectivity.
The milestone was achieved under the Bhairabi–Sairang New Line Railway Project, ANI reported.
Speaking on the occasion, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that the historic trial run was conducted in the presence of Arun Kumar Chaudhary, General Manager (Construction), NFR, and other senior railway officials.
"Their presence highlighted the importance of this achievement and the dedication of the NFR team in overcoming difficult terrain and logistical challenges.”
Chaudhary later briefed Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Lalduhoma on the strategic significance of the project.
“The formal inauguration of the Bhairabi–Sairang railway line [is] likely to take place after June 17,” Sharma added.
The 51.38 km project comprises 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges.
“The height of bridge no. 196 is 104 metres, which is 42 metres taller than the Qutub Minar,” Sharma said, emphasising the project’s technical achievements. It also includes five road-over bridges and six road-under bridges.
"This new line project is divided into four sections, i.e. Bhairabi - Hortoki, Hortoki - Kawnpui, Kawnpui - Mualkhang and Mualkhang - Sairang," Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said.
