The Mohali-Kurali bypass, part of the 31 km six-lane Chandigarh-Ambala Greenfield Expressway, is now slated for completion by the end of November, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Package 2 of the project, which covers the Mohali-Kurali stretch, is 97 per cent complete, with remaining civil works and the installation of an extra high-tension (EHT) line expected to be finalised shortly, Times of India reported.

"We are confident that the corridor will be operational before Dec, barring any unforeseen weather-related disruptions," an NHAI official was quoted as saying by ToI.

Package 1, linking IT City Chowk to Ambala, is scheduled for completion by 31 March 2026.

The project, costing Rs 1,525.3 crore under the central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative, aims to ease congestion on Mohali's Airport Road while providing a direct, high-speed route from Chandigarh to Kurali, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Originally proposed as a 40 km Kharar-Banur-Tepla road, the project was scrapped in 2019 due to high costs before being restructured and awarded to a Maharashtra-based firm in October 2022.

Following negotiations, NHAI increased payments from Rs 24 lakh to Rs 4.18 crore per acre in some areas, ensuring smooth project resumption.

Real estate experts predict the Greenfield Expressway will transform Mohali’s infrastructure and property market.

Areas such as IT City, New Chandigarh, Kharar, and Kurali are expected to witness a 15–25 per cent rise in property values, fuelled by improved connectivity to the airport and industrial zones.

With Package 2 on track for November opening, the expressway is poised to enhance commuter convenience, streamline logistics across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir, and spur economic growth in the region.
