Giriraj Singh
Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday (27 November) expressed concern over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, saying the country's interim government is under the influence of Islamist "fundamentalists" and called for UN intervention.
Condemning the arrest of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh, he said such attacks are against humanity.
"The caretaker 'prime minister' of Bangladesh is in the clutches of fundamentalists. The way Hindus are being attacked is against humanity. United Nations should intervene in this matter," Singh said while speaking to reporters in Parliament complex, news agency PTI reported.
The Bangladesh interim government is headed by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
Singh stated that the persecution of Hindus and religious leaders demonstrates the growing dominance of fundamentalists in Bangladesh interim government like in the case of Pakistan.
The minister was asked about the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh and the prevailing situation there.
On Monday, Bangladesh Police arrested ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka as he was travelling to Chattogram.
India later expressed "deep concern" over his arrest and bail denial, urging Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minorities.
Singh also criticised opposition parties for highlighting incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal while ignoring the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh.
“People are talking about going to Sambhal, but Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav are not able to see Bangladesh, where atrocities are being committed against the Hindus. All Hindus should protest against the atrocities in Bangladesh,” Singh said.
