The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has requested Western Railways to suspend rail traffic for three hours daily in Vadodara for 37 days to facilitate the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, The Indian Express reported.

NHSRCL is the implementing agency of the Rs 1.08 lakh crore Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, also known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

The suspension is reportedly for the first installation of their construction work, set to begin in March, with a completion deadline of December this year.

“We have approached Western Railways and they have given an in-principle agreement to give blocks during the daytime,” an NHSRCL official was quoted as saying in the IE report.

The request aims to enable the construction of a viaduct over the main passenger line.

The revised plan also prevents crane boom movements from interfering with flight paths, resulting in a cost saving of Rs 2,000 crore from the total project budget of Rs 1,08,000 crore.

The goal is to reportedly complete civil work for the 352-km-long Gujarat section of the corridor, which includes an eight-km stretch through Vadodara, known as the “C5 package,” by the end of the year.

The elevated corridor will have 32 spans crossing the railway line, with half over the passenger route and the rest over the freight corridor.
