Mumbai Coastal Road Promenade Likely To Be Inaugurated On Independence Day

The long-anticipated opening of Mumbai’s expansive new promenade along the Coastal Road was recently postponed again, according to a Free Press Journal report.
According to sources cited in the report, the inauguration is now tentatively expected to take place on 15 August potentially as a symbolic gesture to the city.
The event, initially scheduled for 6 August, was abruptly cancelled on Tuesday (5 August) despite elaborate preparations, including a promotional video narrating the project's construction journey.
“The new date has not been confirmed yet, but we believe the state government may be planning to inaugurate it on Independence Day as a symbolic gift to the city — the longest promenade in Mumbai,” a civic official was quoted as saying by FPJ.
The promenade, part of the larger Mumbai Coastal Road Project, spans 7.5 km, more than double the length of the iconic 3.5 km Marine Drive promenade.
Recent progress includes the completion of two key segments: a 2.75 km stretch from Tata Garden to Haji Ali and a 2.5 km stretch between Lovegrove Nullah and BM Thackeray Chowk.
Combined, around 5.25 km of the promenade from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and Baroda Palace to Worli is now ready for public access.
Originally slated to open by 15 July, the launch was delayed pending state government clearance.
