The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is gearing up to commence operations for Phase 2A of Metro Line 3, which will connect Colaba to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), reported The Free Press Journal.

The much-anticipated expansion aims to provide a seamless and efficient commute along one of Mumbai’s busiest corridors.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is set to extend its Metro Line 3 service with the launch of the BKC-Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli section (Phase 2A) by March 2025, according to a Mumbai Live report.

Around 93.1 per cent of overall construction on this stretch has reportedly been completed, while station-related work stands at 98.9 per cent.

The remaining architectural enhancements and system installations are in their final phases and are expected to be concluded soon.

MMRC is working diligently to ensure a smooth rollout of services, which will alleviate traffic congestion and ease the daily commute for thousands of Mumbaikars.

This development follows the successful launch of Phase 1 of Metro Line 3, which became operational in October 2024, linking Aarey Colony JVLR with BKC.

After the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the expansion of the metro network, stating: “The metro network in Mumbai has expanded, and the ease of life of the citizens will get a boost! Congratulations to Mumbaikars on the inauguration of Aarey JVLR to BKC route under the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3.”

Metro Line 3’s first operational phase, which runs between Aarey and BKC, includes 10 stations: BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) T1, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ, and Aarey Colony JVLR.

The metro line currently operates 96 services daily, offering a critical connection between Mumbai’s two airport terminals (T1 and T2) and integrating with Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova) at Marol Naka station.
