In a major push to enhance Mumbai’s urban mobility, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expediting work on Metro Line-9, with the first phase from Dahisar East to Kashigaon expected to be operational by the end of the year.
According to a report by Free Press Journal, metropolitan commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee recently met Anil Kumar Saini, managing director of Alstom India, to discuss progress on signalling systems for Metro-9 and other corridors.
The discussions focused on leveraging global expertise and advanced technology to accelerate completion timelines.
The MMRDA has reported adopted cutting-edge technology and appointed dedicated team leaders for each metro project to ensure timely execution and world-class standards.
Metro Line-9, an 11.38 km corridor extends Metro Line-7 and will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will run from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, while Phase 2 will extend from Kashigaon to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium.
"The corridor will include two key interchange stations. Dahisar East will connect with Metro Line-7 and Metro Line-2, while Miragaon will link with the upcoming Metro Line-10" an official was quoted as saying by Free Press Journal.
Highlighting the importance of this project, he added, "With MMRDA fast-tracking the project, commuters can expect improved connectivity and reduced travel time between Mumbai’s suburbs and Mira Bhayandar. The completion of Metro Line-9 will significantly enhance Mumbai’s public transport network, helping to reduce congestion and promote sustainable urban mobility."
