Days after the Murshidabad violence, which took three lives, the victims are demanding the permanent deployment of Central forces in West Bengal after alleging inaction by the state police during the attacks.

The violence started on Friday (11 April) night. As clashes spilled into Saturday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the immediate deployment of Central forces to bring the situation under control.

While the situation is under control now, with no new reports of violence, the victims are still traumatised, NDTV reported.

Khusbhu Das, a resident of Dhuliyan, has alleged that when her shops and house were vandalised and burnt, they called the police and fire brigade, but no one picked up her calls.

"We want a permanent camp (of the Border Security Force) here so that this does not happen again. We want to live here peacefully," she told ANI, demanding the deployment of central forces.

Another Dhuliyan resident, Prajakta Das, told ANI, "We want peace and security and we want a solution to why this situation arose. We want a permanent camp of central forces here so that this does not happen again."

Currently, eight companies of the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF), including four Rapid Action Force (RAF) companies, are deployed in Murshidabad, which continues to remain tense.

"Wherever we have gone, they are asking for forces to establish their camps inside. We are in the process of establishing those camps. At a few places, they (public) demanded (to set up CRPF camps here)," CRPF IG for West Bengal Sector, Birendra Kumar Sharma said.

"Based on our resources and capability, we will decide on establishing the camp. Even if we do not establish the camp, we will be covering those areas on foot patrolling, on vehicular patrolling, with flag march," he assured.
