Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed on Friday (19 July) that the Muslim population in Assam is growing at a rate of around 30 per cent every decade and is projected to become the majority by 2041.

During a press conference, he stated that Muslims now make up 40 per cent of Assam's population, according to "statistical sampling."

Sarma asserted, "By 2041, Assam will become a Muslim-majority state. It's a reality and nobody can stop it" according to a report from The New Indian Express.

Sarma also satirically mentioned that the Congress party should played a crucial role in controlling the Muslim population growth.

He stated, "Congress has the most important role in arresting the population growth of Muslims. If Rahul Gandhi becomes the brand ambassador of population control, it will be contained as the community only listens to him."
