Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Rams Into Goods Train Near Chennai, 12 Coaches Derail, 19 Injured—What You Need To Know

A passenger train train collided with a stationary goods train in Tamil Nadu on Friday (11 October), leading to the derailment of at least 12 coaches and several injuries among passengers.
Additionally, the parcel van caught fire.
The collision involved the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express (Train 12578) and occurred at Kavaraippettai railway station in Tiruvallur district, near Chennai.
Tiruvallur District Collector Dr T Prabhushankar confirmed that 1,360 passengers were on board, of which 19 passengers were injured.
Four of these passengers were seriously injured and were taken to a hospital immediately.
There have been no reports of fatalities as of now.
After midnight, MTC buses transported stranded passengers to Dr MGR Chennai Central railway station.
R N Singh, General Manager of Southern Railway, stated, "The train was headed towards Gudur and then onto Andhra Pradesh. A goods train, also bound for Gudur, was stationed on the loop line. Although the signal was given for the main line, the passenger train entered the loop line instead and collided with the goods train from behind, derailing the engine", NDTV reported.
According to officials, the train crew felt a heavy jolt just before the train entered the loop line.
Both the pilot and loco pilot are unharmed.
Following the accident, multiple trains were diverted, rescheduled, or cancelled.
A total of 18 trains scheduled for 12 October have been cancelled.
The Railway authorities have initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident.
