The BJP-led Chhattisgarh government drew private investments worth Rs 967 crore in the Naxal-affected Bastar region at its first investor meet in Jagdalpur on Thursday (11 September), reported The Economic Times.

For the first time, private players pledged projects across districts beyond Jagdalpur, covering sectors such as healthcare, tourism, warehousing, cold storage, and manufacturing.

Officials said 33 investors proposed projects with the potential to create about 2,200 jobs. The largest commitment came from a Rs 550 crore project to set up a 350-bed multi-speciality hospital and medical college in Jagdalpur.

Other major proposals included an Rs 85 crore 200-bed hospital in Geedam (Dantewada), a Rs 75 crore hotel in Bastar, a Rs 55 crore resort in Bastar, a Rs 40 crore surgical glove manufacturing unit in Kanker, and a Rs 33 crore multi-speciality hospital in Jagdalpur.

Bastar attracted the highest number of proposals (15), followed by Kanker (six). Jagdalpur, Bijapur, and Kondagaon received three each, while Narayanpur, Dantewada, and Bhanupratappur secured one each.


So far, public sector firms have driven investments in the region. National Mineral Development Corporation alone is executing projects worth Rs 43,000 crore. Indian Railways sanctioned Rs 5,200 crore, while road projects worth Rs 2,300 crore are underway.

According to government data, since November 2023, security forces have killed 453 Naxals, arrested 1,611, and facilitated 1,636 surrenders. Authorities have also opened over 65 new security camps and reopened more than 50 schools.
