Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) released its third list of Lok Sabha candidates on Wednesday (10 April), a day after seat-sharing among Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) parties was finalised.
As per this arrangement, NCP (SP) will contest 10 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats and the latest list declares candidates for nine seats, fielding Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule from Baramati.
This sets the stage for a contest between sisters-in-law as Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar will be contesting from Baramati as the NCP candidate from ruling Mahayuti's side.
Supriya Sule has been representing this constituency since 2009. Earlier, Sharad Pawar has been elected from the constituency six times. Ajit Pawar also won the election here once in 1991.
This comes after incumbent Satara MP Shrinivas Patil denied contesting. Earlier, former Congress Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan's name was also being discussed but he declined to contest as the NCP (SP) candidate.
Shriram Patil will challenge BJP’s Raksha Khadse in Raver, who is seeking a third term. The NCP is yet to announce a candidate on one seat of Madha, that falls under its quota.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest 21 seats and the Congress will contest 17. The voting in the state will be held in five phases from 19 April to 20 May.
