Netanyahu Says Gaza War Could End ‘Tomorrow’ If Hamas Surrenders, Criticises Western Sanctions Threats

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the ongoing war in Gaza could end immediately if Hamas agreed to key conditions, including surrendering its weapons, releasing all hostages, and accepting the demilitarisation of the region.

The remarks come amid growing international pressure, with the UK, France, and Canada warning of potential sanctions against Israel over its renewed military offensive in Gaza, the Indian Express reported.

The joint statement released by the UK on behalf of France and Canada condemned Israel for obstructing humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning that such actions could violate international humanitarian law. Tel Aviv has reportedly blocked aid deliveries for the past two months, raising concerns among experts of an impending famine in Gaza.

Netanyahu reiterated that the war could end “tomorrow” if Hamas lays down arms, releases the remaining hostages, and removes its leadership from Gaza. He declared that “no nation can be expected to accept anything less and Israel certainly won’t.”

Meanwhile, Hamas has reportedly shown willingness to agree to a ceasefire, proposing a 60-day truce in exchange for nine hostages.

Negotiations, mediated by Egypt and Qatar with support from the United States, are currently underway to broker a potential ceasefire agreement.

The Israel-Hamas war, which erupted on 7 October 2023, has marked one of the deadliest and most consequential chapters in the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Triggered by a large-scale assault by Hamas on Israeli territory, the war quickly escalated into intense and sustained hostilities, resulting in catastrophic human loss and widespread destruction, particularly within the Gaza Strip.
