The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to take up a major overhaul of the 7.5 km stretch between South Delhi’s Andheria Mor, near the Chattarpur–Vasant Kunj junction, and the Gurugram border.
Bids have been invited for the project, which will bring the corridor up to national highway standards at an initial cost of around Rs 19.18 crore, according to a Hindustan Times report.
The Mehrauli–Gurugram Road, now designated as National Highway 148A, serves as a crucial link between Delhi and Haryana.
This Andheria Mor–Gurugram section is one of three arterial roads recently transferred from the Delhi government to NHAI.
Apart from resurfacing, drainage improvement and street infrastructure upgrades, the project includes one year of maintenance.
Additional facilities such as road-sweeping machines, patrolling vehicles, ambulances and cranes to clear broken-down vehicles will also be deployed.
Around 12,000 square metres of damaged tiles will be replaced, while additional LED poles will be installed to enhance illumination. Cleaning of the carriageway, medians and central verges will be done mechanically.
“The NHAI will assess congestion points and consider widening where feasible,” one government official was quoted as saying by HT.
The contractor is expected to be finalised by late September, with bids scheduled to open on 25 September.
The upgrades are part of a larger transfer of three major corridors—Mathura Road (Ashram to Badarpur, 8.5 km), Delhi–Rohtak Road (Punjabi Bagh to Tikri Border, 18.5 km), and the Mehrauli–Gurugram Road spanning 33 km.
