Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kerala state president K Surendran today (9 September) said that there was no connection between the fiasco during Thrissur Pooram and Suresh Gopi's victory during the Lok Sabha elections.

Surendran said that Gopi had received a good number of votes from minority dominated assembly segments in the constituency and even got a lead from Ollur, which has a high population of Christians.

"Would they have voted based on what happened during the temple festivities," he asked.

Satheesan claimed that Kumar met Hosabale at the behest of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to strike a deal over the seat. Further, he said that the disruption of the Thrissur Pooram was done by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to help the BJP.

Gopi had become the first BJP MP from Kerala by winning from Thrissur. He also secured a considerable victory margin of 74,686 votes.
