On Tuesday (24 September) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) M K Stalin reaffirmed that changes in the State Cabinet are forthcoming.

When asked about the possibility his son Udhayanidhi Stalin being elevated to Deputy Chief Minister, he said, "There will be no disappointment, there will be change soon."

Udhayanidhi is currently the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister in Tamil Nadu. He also oversees the key portfolio of Special Programme Implementation.

Earlier, upon his return from a trip to the United States (US), CM Stalin had also mentioned that a cabinet reshuffle was on the horizon.

Udhayanidhi had last year courted controversy with his comments on Sanatana Dharma, which led to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) labeling the DMK as an “anti-Hindu” party.

In September last year, Udhayanidhi Stalin stated that Sanatana Dharma should be eradicated. Despite the backlash, the DMK youth wing secretary stuck to his stance and said he will face the cases legally.

Meanwhile, the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) criticised the DMK for “son-rise” within the party ranks.
