On Wednesday (14 August), the Supreme Court has denied interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the graft case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy scam.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued a notice to the central probe agency regarding Kejriwal's plea seeking bail in the case, as well as another petition requesting for quashing of his arrest by the central agency.

Singhvi pointed out that Kejriwal had previously received interim bail in cases registered by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Singhvi argued that since Kejriwal had been granted bail in the PMLA case, which has more stringent provisions, he should not be denied bail in the CBI case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which is less stringent than the PMLA.
