Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday (23 April) directed civic authorities to ensure round-the-clock waste processing at all three of the city’s landfill sites — Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the sluggish pace of waste processing at the sites, she instructed urgent action during a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, PTI reported.

"Delhi's landfills are not merely mounds of garbage, rather testimonies of neglect and mismanagement. This is not merely an environment conservation initiative by the government but also a responsibility towards future generations," said the Chief Minister.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been instructed to launch a three-month-long cleanliness campaign and to prepare a comprehensive plan for repurposing the landfill sites once the waste is fully removed.

The CM called for accelerated deployment of waste-processing machinery and affirmed that waste disposal operations will now proceed at double the previous pace.

Gupta voiced particular concern over the Ghazipur landfill, ordering swift intervention to ensure visible progress.

"The promise we made to the citizens of Delhi will be fulfilled under all circumstances. No negligence will be tolerated in this endeavour," she said.

A detailed action plan was presented during the meeting to expedite work at the landfill sites.
