The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has commenced a topography survey for the proposed Aqua Line extension, stretching 11.6 kilometres from Botanical Garden to Sector 142.

The survey will assess the elevation of buildings, roads, and markets along the planned alignment, ensuring seamless metro integration, according to a report by Economic Times.

This extension will run along the Noida Expressway, offering a direct mass transit link between Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, approximately 40 kilometres away.

It will also connect the Blue and Magenta lines of the Delhi Metro with the Aqua Line. A detailed project report, prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), awaits central government approval.

With the Noida airport set to begin operations in April 2025, approval for the corridor is expected soon.

The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet sanctioned the project in June 2024, with an estimated cost of Rs 2,254.35 crore, to be jointly funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Noida Authority.

Noida CEO Lokesh M highlighted the urgency of the project, stating, "We are eager to prioritise the construction of the 11.6-km metro link. This corridor will significantly reduce the travel time to Delhi for residents of Greater Noida and the Noida Expressway sectors."

Currently, the Aqua Line operates from Depot Station in Greater Noida to Sector 51 in Noida, requiring passengers to walk to Sector 52 (Blue Line) or Botanical Garden (Magenta Line) for further travel. The new extension will eliminate this inconvenience, offering a direct metro connection.

The corridor will have eight new stations, including Sector 96 (near Noida Authority’s upcoming office), Sectors 44, 105, and 93 along the expressway, and others in Sectors 97, 108 (near the police commissioner’s office), and 91 (near Panchsheel Balak Inter College).

The ongoing topography survey will determine the longitude and latitude of key structures along the route.

An NMRC official explained, "This topography study is essential for determining the precise alignment of the metro corridor while taking potential obstacles into consideration. We anticipate completing the survey within the next few weeks."

Initially, the corridor is expected to serve at least 70,000 daily passengers.

Meanwhile, two additional metro projects are pending approval: a 17.4-km corridor from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V, featuring 11 stations (four in Noida and seven in Greater Noida), and a 2.6-km extension from Depot to Bodaki with two stations.
