Odisha Breaks Ground On Rs 2,067 Crore Semiconductor Unit, Aims To Become India’s Next Tech Manufacturing Hub

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday (1 November) laid the foundation stone for the state’s first compound semiconductor manufacturing facility at Info Valley-II, Bhubaneshwar.
The plant, to be established by SiCSem Private Limited with the approval of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), represents a capital investment of Rs 2,067 crore.
The upcoming fabrication and ATMP (assembly, testing, marking, and packaging) unit will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and 96 million packaged units, catering to industries such as electric vehicles, defence, railways, and renewable energy.
The facility is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Majhi described the project as a milestone in Odisha’s development journey.
Majhi emphasised that Odisha’s policies on semiconductors, electronics, AI, and emerging technologies are designed to create an investor-friendly ecosystem backed by modern infrastructure, skilled manpower, and strong industry-academia collaboration.
SiCSem has already established a research and innovation centre at IIT-Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 64 crore, while Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has sanctioned Rs 5 crore from his MP LAD fund for setting up the NAMO Semiconductor Laboratory at the institute.
Vaishnaw, who attended the event virtually, said Odisha was fast emerging as “the gateway to the East,” and lauded the integration of industry, education, and modern technology in driving India’s semiconductor ambitions.
