Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday (5 November) announced the establishment of a new port at Bahuda in Ganjam district and a shipbuilding and repair centre at the Mahanadi river mouth near Paradip, together attracting investments worth over Rs 46,000 crore, reported PTI.

The announcement came during celebrations marking Paradip Port’s foundation day and the traditional ‘Boita Bandana Utsav’ at the port town.

Majhi also revealed plans for a world-class cruise terminal in Puri, aimed at positioning Odisha as a prominent hub for trade, tourism, and coastal development.

The state government and the Paradip Port Authority are jointly planning to construct a large port at Bahuda in Ganjam district with an investment of Rs 21,500 crore.

"A shipbuilding and repair centre will be established at the mouth of the Mahanadi near Paradip at an investment of Rs 24,700 crore, while a world-class cruise terminal will come up in Puri,” he said.

The Chief Minister noted that these projects will inject new momentum into Odisha’s trade, tourism, and industrial sectors, strengthening the state’s coastal economy.


Under the ‘Maritime India Vision 2030’, the port is expected to reach 300 million tonnes, and 500 million tonnes by 2047 as part of the ‘Developed India’ plan.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the alignment of the state’s port-led development with the central government’s Sagarmala, Gati Shakti, and National Logistics Policy, along with efforts to develop Coastal Economic Zones.

Later, Majhi inaugurated Mayfair Hotels and Resorts in Paradip, a premium facility featuring 140 rooms, three restaurants, and 16,000 sq ft of event space.
