Odisha Maritime Board, Paradip Port Ink Major Infrastructure MoUs (X)
The Odisha government on Friday (19 September) signed two major maritime infrastructure agreements totalling Rs 46,200 crore at a maritime event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, reported Times Of India.
The Odisha Maritime Board (OMB) and Paradip Port Authority (PPA) inked a MoU to develop a large-scale shipbuilding cluster in Kendrapada district, with an estimated investment of Rs 24,700 crore.
The project, located on the Mahanadi riverbank opposite the IFFCO plant in Paradip, aims to establish a fully integrated ecosystem.
It will feature one or more large shipyards with a combined capacity of 1–1.2 million gross tonnage (GT) per year.
The planned cluster includes a dedicated waterfront of 2–2.5 km and a land area of 2,000–2,500 acres.
The government statement said that the shipbuilding process will be supported by space for ancillary industries such as engine manufacturing, steel fabrication, and equipment supply.
In a second agreement, OMB, PPA, and the Sagarmala Finance Corporation signed a deal to develop the Bahuda satellite port in Ganjam district, with an investment of Rs 21,500 crore.
The PPA and OMB will jointly develop the necessary land-side and river-side infrastructure to accelerate the project. Officials said the cluster-based approach aims to attract investment, enhance competitiveness, and drive sustainable growth in India’s commercial shipbuilding capacity.
Both projects are expected to generate significant economic activity, strengthen Odisha’s maritime ecosystem, and position the state as a key hub for shipbuilding and port infrastructure development.
