Oil Tanker Capsizes Off Oman Coast: 13 Indians Among 16 Crew Members Missing

An oil tanker carrying 16 crew members, including 13 Indians, has capsized off the coast of Oman, according to the country's maritime security centre.

The crew members are currently missing, and search and rescue operations are underway to find them.

The crew of 'Prestige Falcon', a Comoros-flagged oil tanker, consisted of 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans, the centre tweeted on Thursday.

The vessel capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah near the Omani port of Duqm on Monday (15 July).

The tanker was en route to the Yemeni port of Aden, as per shipping data from LSEG.

The vessel, a 117-metre-long oil products tanker built in 2007, is typically used for short voyages, according to LSEG's shipping data.

Duqm Port, located on Oman's southwest coast, is a key hub for the nation's major oil and gas projects.

It includes a major oil refinery within Duqm's extensive industrial zone, the largest single economic project in the kingdom.
