India has expanded its Operation Sindhu evacuation efforts in Iran to extend assistance to citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka.
This expansion follows formal requests from the two neighboring nations amid escalating Middle East tensions fueled by Israel's Operation Rising Lion and Iran's retaliatory actions, reported The Times Of India.
"On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy's evacuation efforts in Iran will also cover Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka," the Indian Embassy in Tehran stated in a post on X.
India launched Operation Sindhu to bring home Indian nationals stranded in high-risk zones due to Iran's deteriorating security situation.
On Saturday morning (21 June), a special flight carrying Indian citizens landed in Delhi from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
This arrival followed another successful evacuation late Friday night (20 June), which saw 290 Indian students, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir, safely return from Mashhad, Iran, after Tehran reopened its airspace.
