Over 6.98 Lakh Route Km Of Optical Fibre Cables Laid Across India In Last Three Years: Centre

Over 6.98 lakh route km of optical fibre cables have been laid across the country during the last three years, the Central government informed the Parliament on Thursday (31 July).

The information was given in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha , by Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.

"As of March 31, 2025, a total of 6,98,010 route KM of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) has been laid across the country during the last three years," the minister stated.

OFCs are critical infrastructure for high-speed data transmission and serve as the backbone of broadband internet, mobile networks, and digital services.

Their presence enhances communication reliability, boosts economic activities, and enables public service delivery, especially in underserved and rural areas.
