The Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday (25 January) announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards 2025, honouring 139 individuals for their exceptional service across various fields.

These awards are among India’s highest civilian honours, presented annually in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The Padma Vibhushan, awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, will be conferred on seven individuals this year while 19 Padma Bhushan awards will be given.

The largest category, Padma Shri, will have 113 recipients this year.

Overview of Notable Honorees

This year’s awards honour several prominent personalities across fields. In the Padma Vibhushan category, recipients include Dr Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy (Medicine, Telangana), Justice (Retd.) Jagdish Singh Khehar (Public Affairs, Chandigarh), and the late M T Vasudevan Nair (Literature and Education, Kerala).

In the Padma Bhushan category, notable honorees include P R Sreejesh (Sports, Kerala), filmmaker Shekhar Kapur (Art, Maharashtra), and Vinod Dham (Science and Engineering, USA).

The Padma Shri list features distinguished individuals like Arijit Singh (Art, West Bengal), cricketer R. Ashwin (Sports, Tamil Nadu), and Arundhati Bhattacharya (Trade and Industry, Maharashtra), alongside several grassroots contributors from diverse fields.
