Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Near LoC Ahead Of J&K Polls' First Phase Voting, One BSF Jawan Injured

A BSF soldier sustained injuries after Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian posts in Jammu and Kashmir in violation of a ceasefire agreement along the border.
The BSF responded to the attack "befittingly", though the extent of damage on the Pakistani side remains unknown.
"At about 2.35 am, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened and which was befittingly responded by the BSF. One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pakistani firing," a BSF spokesperson said.
The spokesperson further added that the troops are maintaining high alert levels, ensuring tight surveillance across the International Border and the Line of Control.
However, last year, a BSF soldier lost his life in the Ramgarh sector following firing from the Pakistan Rangers, marking the first casualty on the Indian side in over three years.
This latest ceasefire violation comes just days before the first phase of the three-phase J&K assembly elections, slated to begin on 18 September.
The second phase polling is set for 25 September, with the voting for the final phase on 1 October.
