PM Modi And Qatar’s Amir Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties In New Delhi After Ceremonial Reception At Rashtrapati Bhavan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had top-level talks with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, at Hyderabad House in the capital on Tuesday (18 February), cementing the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

According to the ANI report, the session was characterised by delegation-level discussions with an emphasis on increasing economic cooperation, trade ties, and strategic partnerships.

On his arrival at Hyderabad House, the Qatari Amir was given a warm welcome by Prime Minister Modi, and the two heads of government exchanged friendly greetings before going for talks.

Prime Minister Modi headed the Indian side, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and other top officials, while the Qatari delegation was led by the Amir himself.

Earlier during the day, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani was given a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi received him formally, with top ministers also attending the event. The Amir also held talks with President Murmu and other officials.


In a strong diplomatic statement, Prime Minister Modi personally received him at Palam Technical Airport, addressing the Amir as his "brother" and wishing him well for a fruitful visit.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also received the Qatari Amir on arrival.

The Amir's delegation consists of senior ministers, top officials, and a business delegation, indicative of the width of the bilateral agenda.

The largest Indian expatriate population is in Qatar, which has been widely acknowledged for its contributions to the development of the nation.

The visit is likely to strengthen economic, diplomatic, and cultural ties, giving new impetus to the partnership.
