Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday (16 January) announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the setting up of eighth Central Pay Commission.
"The Honorable Prime Minister has approved the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission for all central government employees. Since 1947, there have been seven pay commissions. Following the commitment made by the Prime Minister to form pay commissions at regular intervals, the last one, the 7th Pay Commission, was initiated in 2016 and its term ends in 2026," Vaishnaw said at a press briefing on Cabinet decisions.
"By setting up the 8th Pay Commission well in advance, in 2025, sufficient time will be available to receive its recommendations before the completion of the 7th Pay Commission's term," he said.
"This is a significant decision, as once the Central Pay Commission is formed, nearly all organisations in the country tend to follow its recommendations," he added.
