Firecrackers burst on Diwali
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (20 October) extended his warm wishes to the nation on the occasion of Diwali, calling for a celebration filled with positivity and prosperity.
“Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
Continuing his long-standing tradition of spending Diwali with members of the Indian Armed Forces, Modi is expected to celebrate this year’s festival with Indian Navy personnel aboard INS Vikrant off the Goa coast, according to media reports.
The visit is likely to be in recognition of the Navy’s success in Operation Sindoor, India’s counterstrike following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Since assuming office in 2014, Modi has made it a point to spend the festival with soldiers serving in difficult terrain.
Ahead of the festival, Modi also encouraged citizens to embrace self-reliance and support indigenous products during festive purchases.
“Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hardwork, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians,” he said on Sunday, urging people to “buy Indian products and say — Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai.”
He further encouraged citizens to inspire others by sharing their festive purchases online, adding, “Do also share what you bought on social media. This way you will inspire others to also do the same.”
