Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the must-awaited final Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Aqua Line, completing the entire 33.5 km underground corridor.

This final stretch, connecting Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, has been built at an estimated cost of around Rs 12,200 crore, bringing the total project expenditure to over Rs 37,270 crore.

Stations: The corridor has 27 stations, all underground except for Aarey (JVLR), which is at grade level.

Fares: The minimum fare is Rs 10, and the maximum for the entire journey is Rs 70, making it an affordable option for daily travellers. As per the fare chart, passengers travelling a distance of up to 3 km will be charged Rs 10.

Journeys ranging from 3 km to 12 km will cost Rs 20, while trips between 12 km and 18 km are priced at Rs 30. For distances between 18 km and 24 km, the fare is fixed at Rs 40. Longer rides will see fares set at Rs50 for 24–30 km and Rs 60 for 30–36 km.

Worli–Cuffe Parade can now be covered in 15 minutes, and BKC–Worli in only 13–15 minutes compared to the 45–60 minutes it takes by road. Similarly, Andheri–Cuffe Parade will take 45–50 minutes, while CSMIA Terminal 2–BKC will be just a quick 10–12 minutes.

Connectivity: For the first time, Metro Line 3 seamlessly connects crucial South Mumbai neighbourhoods such as Kalbadevi, Girgaon, and Cuffe Parade with the northern suburbs and major business hubs.

The corridor is expected to handle 13 lakh passengers daily, easing congestion on roads and providing a faster, safer alternative for commuters.

Alongside the inauguration, PM Modi launched “Mumbai One”, an integrated mobility app unifying 11 public transport operators (PTOs), including all major metro lines, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, suburban railways, BEST, Thane and Mira Bhayander municipal transport, Kalyan Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai municipal transport.

The app enables seamless booking of digital tickets across multiple transport modes, provides real-time updates on delays, alternative routes, and estimated arrival times, and offers map-based information on nearby stations, attractions, and points of interest. It also features an SOS function to ensure commuter safety.
