Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (13 October) met Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who is visiting India for the first time, reported Hindustan Times.

The Prime Minister described Anand’s visit as an opportunity to give fresh momentum to the India–Canada bilateral partnership, according to a government statement.

During the meeting, Modi recalled his June visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, where he held a productive discussion with Canadian counterpart Mark Carney.

“Prime Minister welcomed Foreign Minister Anand and conveyed that her visit would contribute to ongoing efforts to impart new momentum to the India–Canada bilateral partnership,” the statement said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people ties.

Anand arrived in New Delhi on Sunday and earlier held talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Speaking on the discussions, Jaishankar emphasised that the two countries should strengthen ties broadly to both de-risk the global economy and rebuild bilateral cooperation.

During her visit, Anand is also scheduled to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to explore ways to enhance trade between the nations. New Delhi marks the first stop of her three-nation tour, which will next take her to China and Singapore.
