News Brief
PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Siwan in Bihar on Friday (20 June) to launch multiple development projects and address a rally.
The visit is being seen as politically significant ahead of the state’s assembly elections due later this year, according to a report by The New Indian Express.
Siwan, considered a stronghold of the RJD, has a sizeable Muslim and Yadav population.
The BJP aims to engage these voter groups through PM Modi’s outreach, especially in the politically important districts of Siwan, Gopalganj, and Chhapra.
PM Modi is expected to criticise the RJD, particularly over the recent controversy involving Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar’s photograph, according to political observer RK Verma cited in the TNIE report.
A senior NDA leader cited in the TNIE report said Modi may also address the caste census notification recently issued by the Centre, as well as the new Waqf law aimed at supporting economically weaker Muslim women, particularly from the Pasmanda community.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will flag off a Vande Bharat train between Patliputra and Gorakhpur. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects valued at Rs 9,519 crore.
An NDA leader reportedly said the rally will underline the government's development agenda and counter the Opposition’s narrative.
PM Modi is also expected to invoke the legacy of Dr Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President and a native of Siwan, to establish an emotional connection with the audience.
