PM Modi To Inaugurate Rs 42,000-Crore Strategic Arunachal Frontier Highway On 22 September Along McMahon Line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Arunachal Pradesh on 22 September to inaugurate the 1,840-km Arunachal Frontier Highway, a Rs 42,000-crore project that officials describe as a strategic lifeline.

The two-lane highway, officially designated NH-913, will run parallel to the McMahon Line, which separates India and China, reported The Times of India.

The road will start from Nafra in Tawang district and stretch eastward to Vijaynagar in Changlang district, connecting India’s easternmost inhabited area that juts into Myanmar from three sides.

Officials stated that the highway is anticipated to facilitate troop mobility and enhance border readiness in an area that has long remained cut off by rugged mountainous terrain.

This will be PM Modi’s second visit to the Northeast in two weeks, underlining the government’s focus on improving infrastructure in border states.

By carving out a high-altitude arterial route through some of Arunachal’s most sensitive and remote regions, the government aims to boost connectivity while reinforcing security along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Officials highlighted that NH-913 will integrate remote communities, reduce isolation, and enhance India’s capability to respond to challenges along the border.
