PMRDA Plans Major Road Upgrade Along Pune Metro Line 3 To Tackle Traffic Congestion

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is preparing to revamp the entire stretch running along Metro Line 3 from Maan depot in Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar into a cement-concrete road, reported The Hindustan Times.
The initiative seeks to transform the 50 km corridor (25 km each side) into a durable and commuter-friendly route.
Alongside the new road surface, the plan also encompasses bus bays, parking lanes, lay-bys, pedestrian-friendly pathways, utility ducts, and modernised road-side infrastructure.
According to Umesh Mallawat, Executive Engineer at PMRDA, tenders have already been floated to appoint consultants responsible for preparing a detailed project report (DPR), overseeing the design and layout, managing the bid process, supervising construction, and offering post-completion assistance.
“The plan includes the construction of cement-concrete roads, development of medians, beautification, shifting of utilities, and electrification of road-related infrastructure,” Mallawat was quoted as saying in the HT report.
The subsequent construction will align surface mobility with the elevated metro infrastructure and address mounting traffic pressures in the city.
Tree replantation or removal and selective land acquisition are on the table to enable road widening and realignment.
The consultant will also conduct detailed surveys, prepare drainage and pavement designs, and ensure coordination for essential utilities like water supply, sewerage, and telecom networks.
The PMRDA has set a four-month timeline for completing the design and documentation phase.
